Chapter 5: The Truth Behind Vance Bridal

Eleanor turned away from the gown.
For the first time, she wasn’t controlling it.
She was looking past it.
“At twenty-six,” she said slowly, “I built Vance Bridal in a borrowed studio with one machine and no name.”
Her voice sharpened.
“And I buried three versions of myself to keep it alive.”
Clara listened, frozen.
Eleanor stepped closer.
“You think I’m destroying your dress?”
A pause.
“No.”
She pointed at Clara.
“I’m preventing your destruction.”
Clara shook her head. “By taking everything from me?”
Eleanor’s eyes darkened.
“I took everything from myself first.”
A long silence.
Then—
The flower girl’s quiet sob broke through the tension.
Reality returned.
Humanity returned.
Eleanor looked at her granddaughter—then back at Clara.
