Chapter 4: A New Dawn

Six months later, the American media was still buzzing with the trial of the century. Victoria Vance was sentenced to life without parole for first-degree murder, kidnapping, and corporate fraud. The Vance family scandal was on the cover of every magazine, but inside the estate, the noise of the world didn't matter.
The grand foyer of the mansion had been completely remodeled. The cold, intimidating black-and-white marble was replaced with warm, inviting hardwood. The oppressive atmosphere was entirely gone.
Clara stood at the top of the grand staircase, looking down. She was no longer wearing a stained uniform; she wore a sharp, elegant navy blazer. She had just finished her first week as the newly appointed head of the Vance Philanthropic Foundation, dedicated to helping missing and exploited children.
Arthur stood at the bottom of the stairs, looking up at his daughter. This time, he was smiling.
"Are you ready for the gala tonight, Clara?" he asked, holding out his arm.
Clara walked down the stairs, her steps confident, her head held high. The scars on her face had faded into faint lines, symbols of survival rather than shame. She placed her hand through her father's arm.
"More than ready, Papa," Clara said.
