Chapter 1: The Shattered Glass

The crystal wine glass slipped from Victoria’s manicured fingers, shattering on the pristine marble floor. The white wine mingled with the puddle of dirty water Clara had been forced to scrub.
"Arthur," Victoria stammered, her voice losing its icy edge, instantly replaced by a high-pitched panic. "It’s... it’s not what it looks like. The girl was clumsy, she—"
Arthur Vance didn't look at his wife. He dropped his leather briefcase. The heavy thud echoed through the three-story foyer of the Vance estate. In three long strides, the billionaire patriarch bypassed his trembling wife and dropped to his knees in his custom-tailored Tom Ford suit.
"Clara," Arthur whispered, his voice cracking—a sound the American business world had never heard from the ruthless CEO. His powerful hands gently framed her bruised, tear-stained face. "My God. What have they done to you?"
"I'm sorry, Papa," Clara choked out, her shoulders shaking under the cheap maid uniform. "I wanted to find you. I didn't know she would be here."
Arthur’s eyes scanned the cuts on her cheekbone, the raw skin on her knees, and the threadbare rag in her hand. The grief in his eyes instantly hardened into a terrifying, quiet fury. He stood up, turning to face Victoria. The air in the room grew freezing cold.
"Ten years," Arthur said, his voice dangerously low. "I spent ten years searching for my daughter after the accident. And I find her here, in my own house, being treated like an animal by the woman I married."
Victoria stepped back, her heel catching on the bottom step of the grand staircase. "Arthur, listen to me! I didn't know! She applied as an agency maid under a fake name!"

"Because I was scared!" Clara cried out from the floor, leaning against the marble pillar for support. "I knew what she did to my mother. I had to see it for myself."
Arthur looked between his terrified wife and his bleeding daughter. "Get out of my sight, Victoria. Before I do something that the police won't need an investigation to lock me up for."
