CHAPTER 20 The Door That Stayed Open

The truth should have ended everything.
But it didn't.
It only created more questions.
Victoria Harrington.
The woman everyone suspected.
The woman whose secrets had followed the family for decades.
Was she truly the enemy?
Or was someone using her name?
Daniel stood in the farmhouse.
His entire life had collapsed.
But one thing remained.
He needed answers.
They returned to Harrington Manor before sunrise.
Victoria was waiting.
Almost as if she knew.
Daniel entered the room.
"Tell me the truth."
Victoria looked at him.
"I always did."
"No."
His voice was cold.
"You told me what protected you."
Silence.
Emma watched.
Noah stood behind Daniel.
Victoria looked at all three children.
Then smiled sadly.
"You finally understand."
Daniel frowned.
"Understand what?"
"That your father wasn't the only person keeping secrets."
She walked toward an old cabinet.
Opened it.
Inside was a small box.
She handed it to Emma.
"Your father wanted you to have this."
Emma opened it.
Inside was a key.
An old metal key.
Daniel looked confused.
"What does it open?"
Victoria looked toward the locked basement beneath the mansion.
"The room Richard never allowed anyone to enter."
Noah whispered:
"Impossible."
Victoria looked at him.
"Noah..."
She smiled.
"Your father didn't hide his biggest secret in a vault."
A pause.
"He hid it under the house."
Emma held the key.
The basement door waited.
Locked.
Untouched.
For thirty years.
Daniel looked at his siblings.
"Whatever is inside..."
He stopped.
Because they all knew.
The truth they had been chasing...
Was finally behind that door.
Emma slowly inserted the key.
The lock clicked.
The door opened.
And from inside the darkness...
A voice whispered:
May you like
"I've been waiting for you."
