CHAPTER 4 — A Name Reclaimed

CHAPTER 4 — A Name Reclaimed

Three days later, the world was still talking.

Court hearings were scheduled.

Sterling International stocks had crashed.

Eleanor Sterling had vanished from public view.

And Damian Sterling refused all interviews.

But none of that mattered to Leo anymore.

Because he was sitting in a small apartment now.

Not a mansion.

Not a palace.

Just a home filled with sunlight and quiet.

Sofia was cooking.

Eliza was gone—protected under witness relocation.

And Leo was drawing.

“Mom,” he said suddenly.

Sofia turned. “Yes?”

He hesitated. “Am I still… a Sterling?”

Sofia paused.

Then she walked over and knelt beside him.

“No,” she said gently. “You’re something better now.”

Leo tilted his head. “What?”

Sofia smiled through tears.

“You’re yours.”

Leo looked at the drawing again.

It was simple.

A house.

A sun.

And three stick figures holding hands.

Sofia, Leo… and a blank space labeled me.

“What about Dad?” he asked softly.

Sofia didn’t answer immediately.

Then she said, carefully, “He made mistakes. Big ones.”

Leo nodded slowly, like he understood more than he should.

“I don’t hate him,” he said.

That surprised her.

“Why?”

Leo looked down. “Because he still kept my picture.”

Silence filled the room.

Soft.

Heavy.

Human.

Sofia pulled him into a hug.

Outside, the world kept moving.

But inside that small apartment, something broken had finally been rebuilt—not into what it was before…

…but into something new.

Something honest.

Something chosen.

And for the first time in five years…

Leo Sterling didn’t belong to an empire.

May you like

He belonged to a family.

THE END.
