CHAPTER 2 — The Nurse Who Returned from Silence

CHAPTER 2 — The Nurse Who Returned from Silence
The ballroom didn’t recover after the door opened.
It only got quieter.
The woman standing there looked exhausted, like someone who had been running from ghosts for years. Her hands shook around the folder she carried, but her eyes didn’t.
They were fixed on Damian Sterling.
“Sophia,” Damian said under his breath.
But the woman corrected him immediately.
“It’s Nurse Eliza Hart now.”
A collective murmur rippled through the crowd.
Eliza stepped forward, heels clicking against marble like a countdown.
“You told them she lost the baby,” she said, pointing at Sofia. “You told her the child died.”
Sofia staggered. “You were there?”
Eliza swallowed hard. “I was the one who signed the false report.”
The words hit like gunfire.
Leo tightened his grip on Sofia’s hand.
Damian’s voice turned sharp. “You were paid to stay silent.”
“I was threatened,” Eliza shot back. “Your mother made sure I understood the difference.”
All eyes shifted slowly to Eleanor Sterling.
The matriarch didn’t flinch.
She only said, “Family protects itself.”
Sofia’s voice broke. “You stole my child.”
Eliza finally opened the folder.
Inside were sealed hospital documents, transfer orders, security logs, and one final page:
INFANT TRANSFER: STERLING MALE HEIR — STATUS: ACTIVE
Sofia’s breath stopped.
“He wasn’t dead,” she whispered.
Eliza nodded. “He was taken. Same day he was born.”
Leo’s voice was small. “Taken… from you?”
Sofia dropped to her knees in front of him.
“Yes,” she whispered, touching his face like she was afraid he’d disappear again. “But I found you.”
Damian stepped forward. “This is getting out of control.”
Eliza turned sharply. “No, Damian. This is finally getting documented.”
She raised the folder slightly.
“I sent copies already.”
A few guests gasped.
Phones buzzed instantly.
News alerts started flashing on screens around the ballroom walls.
STERLING SCANDAL BREAKING LIVE
Damian looked around, realizing the truth was no longer contained.
It was spreading.
