Chapter 4 – A Different Kind of Beginning

Six months later...

Autumn painted the Holloway estate in gold.

Margaret poured tea onto the same terrace where everything had fallen apart.

Daniel joined her carrying two cups.

Neither spoke for a long moment.

Finally she asked,

"Did you ever love her?"

Daniel stared toward the garden.

"I loved the woman I believed she could become."

Olivia had accepted a plea agreement.

She revealed everything.

Richard had found her when she was nineteen.

Alone.

Poor.

Desperate.

He taught vulnerable women how to attract powerful men.

Then convinced them there was no way out.

Until Daniel.

For months, he had secretly shown her evidence that Richard manipulated every life he touched.

When the arrests happened—

Olivia chose to testify instead of protecting the man who had controlled her for nearly a decade.

Richard Ashcroft received multiple life sentences without parole.

Authorities recovered hundreds of millions of dollars stolen from grieving families.

Several wrongful death investigations were reopened.

Dozens of victims finally received justice.

Margaret looked at her son.

"So... the wedding?"

Daniel smiled softly.

"There was never going to be a marriage."

Only then did Margaret understand.

Her son had walked willingly toward the altar.

Not to begin a life with Olivia.

But to end the nightmare that had destroyed so many others.

As the afternoon sun settled over the estate, Daniel removed the wedding band he had worn only for the operation.

He looked at it one final time.

Then dropped it into the lake.

The ring disappeared beneath the still water.

So did the lies.

And for the first time in years—

The Holloway family could finally begin telling the truth.
