Chapter 3 – The Trial That Exposed the Empire
The courtroom was packed with reporters from around the world.
What began as a missing-person mystery had become one of the country's most shocking criminal cases.
Prosecutors accused Vivian Moretti of kidnapping, unlawful imprisonment, fraud, identity theft, financial conspiracy, assault, and witness intimidation.
But Vivian remained confident.
She claimed Elena had suffered psychological illness and voluntarily stayed in the mansion.
Then the prosecution played the hidden recordings.
The courtroom fell silent.
Jurors watched Vivian order servants to ignore Elena's pleas for help.
They watched Elena collapse from exhaustion.
They watched guards drag her back inside after she tried to escape through the gardens.
One former chauffeur took the stand.
"I drove Mrs. Castillo to a hospital once."
"Why didn't you report it?"
Vivian promised to ruin my family if I spoke."
Another witness was the physician.
After being arrested overseas and extradited, he accepted a plea agreement.
He admitted Vivian had paid millions to falsify medical records, prescribe unnecessary sedatives, and declare Elena mentally incompetent.
The final witness surprised everyone.
Maria.
The elderly housekeeper stood before the jury with shaking hands.
"I was a coward."
She looked directly at Elena.
"I should have helped sooner."
Elena rose from her seat.
Instead of anger, she embraced the elderly woman.
"You survived too."
Many jurors wiped away tears.
After only six hours of deliberation, the verdict arrived.
Guilty.
On every count.
Vivian's confident smile disappeared forever as the judge imposed decades in prison, ordered full financial restitution, and permanently barred her from controlling any Castillo assets.
As deputies led Vivian away in handcuffs, she looked back at Alejandro.
"You chose her over me."
He answered calmly.
"I chose the truth."
