CHAPTER 2: THE CHILD WHO WAS FOUND TWICE

The ballroom no longer felt like a celebration.
It felt like a courtroom where the truth was finally waking up.
Victoria Ashford stood frozen in front of the girl called Rosie. The world around her blurred—champagne glasses, whispers, music—everything dissolved into a distant echo.
Only one thing remained real.
That necklace.
And the crescent-shaped birthmark on Rosie’s wrist.
Victoria’s voice broke the silence.
“Where… were you found?”
Rosie hesitated.
“In a burned orphan district outside Marseille,” she said softly. “They said I was the only survivor in the ruins of an old estate.”
The words hit Victoria like collapsing stone.
Marseille.
Not Paris.
Not random.
The Ashford estate in France had been secretly relocated there for a private retreat years ago—after threats she never spoke of publicly.
Her hands trembled.
“No…” she whispered. “That’s impossible…”
Rosie stepped back, frightened.
“Please, ma’am… I don’t know what you think you’re seeing—”
But Victoria was no longer listening.
Her mind was rebuilding everything she had buried.
The fire wasn’t an accident.
It had been too precise.
Too targeted.
And now… this girl stood in front of her wearing the one object that survived it all.
Victoria suddenly turned sharply.
“Security,” she called out.
The room went silent.
Two guards approached immediately.
“Bring me the Ashford orphan records from Marseille,” she ordered. “Now.”
Gasps spread through the crowd.
Rosie’s eyes widened in panic.
“Wait—what are you doing?”
May you like
Victoria looked at her, voice shaking but firm.
“I am about to prove whether the world stole my daughter… or whether fate just gave her back.”
