Chapter 2: The Empire Was Never His

The silence inside the penthouse became unbearable.
The man in the black robe stared at the documents spread across the marble table as though they belonged to someone else.
"They're fake," he whispered.
"They have to be."
The lawyer calmly adjusted his tie.
"They were filed six hours ago."
He slid another document across the table.
"The National Trust."
"The Central Bank."
"The Supreme Probate Court."
"Every signature has already been verified."
The mistress stepped backward.
"No..."
She grabbed the man's arm.
"Tell them they're lying."
Instead, his knees weakened.
Because he recognized the final signature.
His own father.
The father who had died three months earlier.
The father who had always promised...
"Everything will belong to you."
Madam Boss slowly folded the documents.
"My father never intended for you to inherit anything."
The room froze.
The man looked up.
"What did you say?"
She smiled for the first time.
"You spent fifteen years pretending to build an empire."
"But every company..."
"Every investment..."
"Every mansion..."
"They were all purchased with my family's trust."
His breathing became shallow.
"No..."
"You married me because you thought I needed your name."
She took another step toward him.
"When in reality..."
"You needed mine."
The lawyer opened one final folder.
"There is one more matter, Madam."
She nodded.
"Proceed."
"The board of directors voted unanimously this morning."
"Mr. Adrian Blackwood has officially been removed as Chairman."
The phone inside Adrian's pocket rang.
He answered with trembling hands.
One sentence destroyed everything.
"Sir..."
"Security has locked you out of headquarters."
The call disconnected.
