Chapter 3: The Turning of the Tide

Three months later, the Grand Ballroom of the Plaza Hotel was packed once again for the annual New York Elite Gala. The elite crowd buzzed with gossip about the sudden rise of the mysterious new Sterling heiress.

Chloe stood by the champagne fountain, dressed in an expensive designer gown, though her social standing had severely plummeted. She was bitter, desperate to reclaim her throne as the queen bee of the young socialites.

The double doors opened, and the announcer’s voice boomed: "Presenting Miss Maya Sterling."

The room held its breath. Maya walked in, radiating pure elegance. She wore an immaculate, midnight-blue silk gown that flowed flawlessly as she moved. Her hair was swept up, exposing her sharp, aristocratic jawline, and on her wrist, polished to a brilliant shine, was the silver coin bracelet. She was no longer the trembling girl covered in frosting; she was the future of the Sterling dynasty.

Chloe’s knuckles turned white around her glass. Unable to contain her malice, she stepped into Maya’s path, blocking her way just like she had three months ago. "You can buy the dress, Maya," Chloe whispered viciously, "but you’ll always be a dirty little waitress to me."
