CHAPTER 2: THE SECRET EVERYONE MISSED
The guests surrounded Daniel's mother.
Many of them knew her company.
Everyone respected her.
Yet nobody understood one thing.
Why was a billionaire dressed like a janitor?
Emily asked the question immediately.
"This has to be a joke."
The old woman shook her head.
"No joke."
Daniel took a deep breath.
"My mother cleans every property she owns at least once a year."
"What?"
The guests looked stunned.
She smiled sadly.
"It reminds me where I came from."
Years ago she had cleaned hotel rooms for minimum wage.
She had built her empire from nothing.
Every year she returned anonymously to check how employees were treated.
To see who respected people.
And who didn't.
Then she looked directly at Emily.
"You failed."
Emily's face burned.
"You tricked me!"
"No," the old woman replied.
"You revealed yourself."
The words hit harder than any slap.
Daniel reached into his jacket and pulled out another envelope.
Emily frowned.
"What is that?"
Daniel answered calmly.
"A private investigator's report."
The room froze again.
Emily's heartbeat accelerated.
Because she already knew what was inside.
Daniel opened the file.
Photographs slid onto the table.
Pictures of Emily.
With another man.
Holding hands.
Kissing.
Entering luxury resorts together.
The crowd erupted.
"No way..."
Emily's knees nearly gave out.
Daniel looked heartbroken.
"You were cheating on me."
Tears filled Emily's eyes.
"I can explain."
But Daniel was done listening.
Then someone from the back of the ballroom suddenly shouted.
"Wait... she's pregnant!"
