CHAPTER 1: THE WEDDING THAT STOPPED IN ONE SECOND

The ballroom was dead silent.

Hundreds of guests stood frozen as white roses lay scattered across the marble floor.

Emily's hand was still hanging in the air.

She had just slapped a seventy-year-old woman in front of everyone.

The old woman staggered backward, clutching her cheek.

"Get her out of here!" Emily shouted.

"She ruined my entrance!"

A few guests exchanged uncomfortable looks.

The elderly woman lowered her eyes.

"I'm sorry," she whispered.

But before anyone could move, the giant church doors slammed open.

BANG.

Heads turned.

A man in a black tuxedo came running down the aisle.

The groom.

Daniel.

The entire room gasped.

Emily's face turned white.

"Mom?"

Daniel slowly stood.

His eyes burned with anger.

Emily laughed nervously.

"Wait... your mother is a janitor?"

Daniel stared at her.

"No."

The room grew even quieter.

Then he spoke words that made everyone's stomach drop.

"She's the reason this entire wedding exists."

Emily blinked.

"What are you talking about?"

Daniel turned toward the crowd.

"My mother owns this hotel."

The ballroom exploded with whispers.

Emily's jaw fell open.

"No..."

Daniel nodded.

"Not just this hotel."

He pointed toward the ceiling.

"The entire chain."

The bride suddenly felt weak.

Because she knew exactly how much that company was worth.

Billions.

Then the old woman quietly pulled something from her purse.

A set of ownership papers.

And Emily realized her nightmare was only beginning...
