Chapter 1: The Truth Behind the Pearls

Silence spread across the ballroom like a wave.

No one reached for another glass of champagne.

No one whispered.

The orchestra stopped in the middle of a note.

The woman in the silver dress stared at the elderly lady as though she had forgotten how to breathe.

"...Yours?" she whispered.

The elderly woman gave a small nod.

"Every brick. Every chandelier. Every room."

Several hotel managers hurried into the ballroom, having heard the commotion.

The general manager reached the elderly woman first.

His face turned pale.

"Mrs. Eleanor Whitmore..."

Without hesitation, he bowed.

Every employee standing behind him followed.

The ballroom erupted into shocked murmurs.

The bride covered her mouth.

Her eyes filled with tears.

"You... you're Mrs. Whitmore?"

Eleanor smiled gently.

"I've owned this hotel for nearly thirty years."

The woman in silver suddenly laughed nervously.

"This... this has to be some joke."

The general manager turned toward her.

"I'm afraid it isn't."

He handed Eleanor a golden access card.

"The security office has already reviewed today's footage, ma'am."

Eleanor accepted it without looking away from the woman.

"I asked them to."

The woman's confidence vanished.

"What footage?"

Eleanor answered quietly.

"Every moment since I walked through those doors."

The bride slowly realized the truth.

This had never been an accident.
