The same alley looked different.

No child slept there anymore.
Evelyn had purchased the abandoned building beside it and transformed it into a neighborhood resource center for homeless families and runaway children.

Daniel insisted on helping every afternoon after school.
Whenever frightened children arrived, he greeted them first.

Emily still packed an extra sandwich in her lunchbox every morning.
