Chapter 2: The Name That Was Erased

Vance moved fast now.

Too fast.

He crossed the ballroom in seconds, grabbed the chip from the floor, and scanned it with a handheld device pulled from his jacket.

The screen lit up.

Then froze.

Then flashed red.

ACCESS DENIED.

CLASSIFIED LEVEL: OMEGA BLACK.

Vance’s face tightened.

“That’s not possible,” he muttered.

Maya held her baby tighter, stepping back.

“What is it?” she asked.

Vance didn’t answer right away.

He looked at her instead.

Really looked.

Then at the broken pendant on the table.

Then back at her.

And something inside him shifted from shock… to fear.

“You were never supposed to survive with this,” he said quietly.

Victoria scoffed nervously.

“She’s a nobody. A maid’s orphan story—”

Vance snapped his head toward her.

“Stop talking.”

The room froze again.

Even Victoria did.

Vance turned back to Maya.

“This isn’t jewelry,” he said. “This is a containment key.”

Maya blinked.

“I don’t understand…”

“You don’t understand because you were never given your real name.”

Silence dropped like a hammer.

Vance swallowed.

Then said it.

“Your name isn’t Maya.”

A pause.

Then the words that shattered everything:

“Your real identity was wiped after Project Black Harbor.”

The entire ballroom erupted in whispers.

Victoria stepped back.

“That project was shut down twenty years ago…”

Vance nodded slowly.

“It was supposed to be.”

He looked at Maya.

“But the daughter of the lead scientist survived.”

Maya’s lips parted slightly.

“No…”

Vance nodded again.

“You’re her.”

The baby in her arms made a small sound.

May you like

But no one moved.

Because the truth had just rewritten the entire room.
