Chapter 12 – The Secret Behind Tyler’s Birth
Harrison’s arrest exposed more than financial crimes.
Victor survived surgery and began talking before sunrise.
He described twenty shell companies, seven compromised bankers, three judges who had accepted favors, and dozens of public pension accounts drained through fraudulent investments.
But the most painful revelation came from a sealed file recovered from Harrison’s villa.
Reed brought it to Natalie in a private room at the Swiss police headquarters.
Tyler slept on a couch nearby.
“What is it?” Natalie asked.
“A document Harrison intended to use if Tyler ever refused to cooperate.”
Inside was a DNA report.
Natalie read it twice.
Then a third time.
Harrison was not Tyler’s biological father.
The report identified Tyler’s biological father as Michael Bennett—Natalie’s first husband.
Michael had died in a construction accident two months before Tyler was born.
Natalie felt the room tilt.
“That’s impossible.”
Reed placed another document beside it.
A hospital record.
Years earlier, Harrison had paid a laboratory employee to alter Tyler’s paternity test. He then convinced Natalie that Michael could not have been the father.
At the time, Natalie had been grieving, pregnant, and alone. Harrison had supported her, married her, and legally claimed Tyler as his son.
She had believed it was love.
It had been strategy.
Michael’s family had owned shares in Bennett Infrastructure, a regional construction company. Those shares were placed in trust for Michael’s unborn child.
The trust had later become extraordinarily valuable after the company merged with a national engineering corporation.
Tyler’s inheritance had been worth nearly forty million dollars.
Harrison had married Natalie to gain access to it.
The financial network did not begin after Tyler’s birth.
Tyler had been the reason for it from the beginning.
Natalie looked toward her sleeping son.
“Does he know?”
“No.”
“Then he doesn’t need to know today.”
Reed nodded.
Natalie continued reading.
Harrison had redirected Tyler’s inheritance into his own companies. He used the money to build Vale Meridian Holdings and then used Tyler’s identity to hide later crimes.
The wealthy empire Harrison claimed proved he could give Tyler a better future had been built with money stolen from Tyler.
When Tyler woke, he immediately looked for his mother.
Natalie sat beside him.
“There’s something I need to tell you.”
She explained slowly.
She told him about Michael.
She told him Harrison had lied.
She told him the truth did not erase the years Tyler had spent believing Harrison was his father.
Tyler remained silent for a long time.
“Did Michael know about me?”
“Yes,” Natalie said. “He loved you before you were born.”
“How do you know?”
Natalie removed an old envelope from her wallet.
She had carried it for thirteen years.
Inside was a letter Michael wrote after hearing Tyler’s heartbeat for the first time.
Natalie had never shown it to Harrison.
She read the final lines aloud.
Tell our son that no amount of money will ever be his future.
His future will be the person he chooses to become.
Tyler began to cry.
Natalie held him until the tears stopped.
Harrison had stolen his inheritance.
