PART 5 — The Collapse of Power (Final Chapter)

Outside the church, thunder rolled.

Inside, Evan Vale finally broke.

“This is illegal,” he said again, but his voice was weaker now. “I built that company.”

Mr. Halden closed the folder.

“No,” he said calmly. “You destroyed your wife. She built the safeguard.”

Celeste backed away slowly.

For the first time, she looked at Evan like he was no longer valuable.

Like a man who had already lost everything.

Evan turned to me.

His voice dropped.

“You did this,” he said.

I shook my head once.

“No,” I replied. “She did.”

A silence.

Then I stepped closer to him.

Not angry.

Not loud.

Just certain.

“You didn’t lose everything today,” I said quietly. “You lost it the moment you forgot she was smarter than both of us.”

Evan looked toward the coffin one last time.

But Emma was no longer just a body in a church.

She was a decision.

A plan.

A warning that arrived too late.

Outside, sirens began to echo faintly.

Mr. Halden spoke for the final time.

“Per legal instruction, control of Vale Holdings is now transferred to the executor.”

He looked at me.

“Margaret Ellis.”

Evan whispered, almost broken:

“She hated me that much…”

I leaned slightly toward him.

And for the first time, my voice carried something colder than grief.

“No,” I said.

“She loved her child more than she ever loved you.”

ENDING

As the coffin was finally lowered, I didn’t cry.

I couldn’t.

Because grief was no longer the strongest emotion in the room.

Reckoning was.

And somewhere between silence and thunder…

Emma Vale had already won.
