The next morning, Emily entered Ashford Tower.
Not through the employee entrance.
Through the executive lobby.
Hundreds of employees stood waiting.
Executives lined both sides of the marble hallway.
As the elevator doors opened...

Then applauded.

"They're welcoming their chairwoman."

An elderly woman stood as Emily entered.
She introduced herself.
"Eleanor Whitmore."
"Your mother's closest friend."

"I promised Elizabeth I'd find you."
Tears filled Emily's eyes.
"You knew my mother?"
"I loved her."
Eleanor smiled sadly.
"And I also know she wasn't killed by chance."
The room fell silent.
William slowly closed the boardroom doors.
He activated a large screen.
Police files appeared.
Old photographs.
Financial records.
Private investigation reports.
"The accident..."
William said quietly.
"...wasn't an accident."
Emily froze.
"What?"
"A mechanic was bribed."
"The limousine's brakes were intentionally sabotaged."
The board members exchanged grim looks.
"For twenty-six years..."
"We believed everyone responsible had disappeared."
William changed the slide.
A familiar face appeared.
Emily felt her blood run cold.
Richard Harrison.
Margaret's late husband.
Daniel's father.
One of the men who had secretly invested in the company that profited after the Ashford tragedy.
"He wasn't the mastermind."
William continued.
"But he helped cover everything up."
