CHAPTER 2 — THE HOUSE THAT WAS NEVER HIS

The rain started outside, tapping softly against the windows like distant applause.

Daniel sat down slowly, like his legs had forgotten how to hold him.

“You’re lying,” he said, but his voice had cracked.

Claire remained standing.

“No,” she replied. “You just never read the papers you signed.”

She stepped closer, each word measured.

“Every loan you took in my name. Every bailout I approved. Every asset I quietly transferred into my trust.”

Daniel shook his head. “Why would you do this?”

Claire’s eyes didn’t blink.

“Because I loved you.”

That hit harder than the slap ever could.

His mistress shifted uneasily. “Daniel… what is she talking about?”

But Daniel didn’t answer.

Claire continued, voice steady.

“You wanted me to kneel today.”
A faint pause.
“I already did—for years, building your empire while you called it yours.”

She placed a keycard on the table.

“The house is under my name too.”

Daniel looked at it like it was a weapon.

“So what now?” he whispered.

Claire turned toward the door.

“Now?” she said calmly.
“Now you learn what it feels like to be unnecessary in your own life.”

May you like

And she walked out.

Leaving him inside a house that suddenly felt чуж.
