Chapter 2: The Call That Erased His Power

The rain began falling before Isabella lowered her phone.
She stood beneath the glowing hotel sign, water soaking the simple white blouse Marcus had mocked only an hour earlier.
Inside the presidential suite...
Music echoed.
Crystal glasses clinked.
Marcus Weston laughed as Sophia, his young mistress, raised a champagne flute.
"To new beginnings."
Guests applauded.
None of them noticed the first executive quietly leaving the ballroom after receiving an urgent phone call.
Marcus certainly didn't.
His confidence had never depended on facts.
Only appearances.
The elevator doors suddenly opened.
The hotel's Chief Financial Officer stepped out, pale as marble.
He hurried directly toward Marcus.
"Sir... may I speak with you?"
Marcus barely glanced at him.
"Can't it wait?"
"I'm afraid it can't."
Annoyed, Marcus followed him into the hallway.
"What now?"
The CFO swallowed.
"The board has called an emergency meeting."
Marcus frowned.
"The board answers to me."
"They... no longer do."
Marcus laughed.
"What nonsense are you talking about?"
The CFO handed him a tablet.
Across the screen appeared an official corporate filing.
Castle Hospitality Group
Emergency Board Resolution
Effective Immediately
Marcus Weston removed as Acting Chief Executive Officer.
Interim authority restored to Isabella Ashford-Weston.
Marcus stared.
His smile slowly disappeared.
"This is fake."
"It was filed thirty-seven minutes ago."
"My shares prevent this."
The CFO hesitated.
"You don't own controlling shares."
Marcus looked up sharply.
"What?"
"The controlling trust has always belonged to Mrs. Weston."
Silence.
"For fifteen years."
Marcus's heartbeat became audible inside his own ears.
"No..."
He grabbed his phone.
Called legal.
No answer.
Called accounting.
Straight to voicemail.
Then his access badge vibrated.
A soft electronic tone.
ACCESS REVOKED.
The screen flashed red.
The ballroom lights continued sparkling.
The celebration continued.
Only now...
Marcus had become the only guest no longer welcome.
Outside...
A convoy of six black Rolls-Royces quietly entered the circular driveway.
Security guards immediately straightened.
Every employee instinctively stepped aside.
The lead vehicle stopped beside Isabella.
An elderly gentleman exited first.
Alexander Ashford.
Founder of the Ashford Family Office.
Chairman of Castle Hospitality Group.
More importantly...
Isabella's father.
He gently placed his jacket over her shoulders.
"I told you years ago," he said softly.
"A man who only loves your position will eventually try to steal it."
Isabella gave a tired smile.
"I hoped you were wrong."
"So did I."
He opened the limousine door.
"Let's finish this."
Back inside...
Marcus stormed toward the main entrance.
The revolving doors opened.
He froze.
Every executive in the lobby stood simultaneously.
Not for him.
For Isabella.
She entered wearing the same clothes she had been thrown out in only twenty minutes earlier.
She hadn't changed.
She didn't need to.
Power required no costume.
Alexander walked one step behind her.
The hotel's legal counsel followed.
Then the board.
Then private security.
Sophia whispered nervously,
"Marcus..."
"Do something."
Marcus forced a smile.
"Isabella..."
"Let's talk privately."
She stopped three feet away.
Calm.
Expressionless.
"No."
"You embarrassed me publicly."
"You'll answer publicly."
The entire lobby fell silent.
Marcus lowered his voice.
"This is between husband and wife."
"No."
She looked directly into his eyes.
"It became business the moment you used company security to throw out the majority owner."
Several executives exchanged horrified looks.
Marcus blinked.
"Majority owner?"
Alexander answered instead.
"My daughter owns sixty-three percent."
Marcus felt the blood drain from his face.
"Impossible."
Alexander calmly handed him a folder.
"Perhaps you should have read the shareholder agreement before spending fifteen years pretending to run my company."
Marcus opened it.
Every signature...
Every trust...
Every transfer...
Perfectly legal.
Perfectly documented.
His hands began shaking.
For the first time that night...
He understood.
May you like
He had never been in charge.
He had only been allowed to believe he was.
