**CHAPTER 13 THE LAST MOVE OF RICHARD WHITMORE**

Richard Whitmore had spent his entire life winning.

He won negotiations.

He won business battles.

He won against competitors who thought they were powerful enough to challenge him.

But he had never faced someone who refused to lose.

His own daughter.

The woman he believed he had erased.

The woman he thought would return broken.

Instead, she came back stronger than ever.

And that terrified him.

Three days after the hearing, Richard disappeared from public view.

The media called it a retreat.

I knew better.

It was preparation.

A man like Richard Whitmore didn’t surrender.

He searched for a weapon.

And eventually...

he found one.

My mother.

Or rather...

the truth about her death.

For twenty years, everyone believed my mother died in a tragic car accident.

A rainy road.

A sudden crash.

A terrible loss.

But Richard knew something nobody else knew.

And he was about to use it.

My attorney called me late at night.

“Celeste, you need to come here immediately.”

I heard the concern in his voice.

“What happened?”

“We received new evidence.”

My stomach tightened.

“What kind of evidence?”

A pause.

“Evidence about your mother.”

The world seemed to stop.

I arrived at the office twenty minutes later.

My attorney placed a file on the table.

Inside were photographs.

Reports.

Old documents.

I looked at the first page.

My hands became cold.

The accident report had been changed.

The original document showed something different.

Brake failure.

Not weather.

Not human error.

Mechanical sabotage.

I looked up.

“Who did this?”

Nobody answered.

Because deep down...

I already knew.

The next morning, Richard’s lawyers made their announcement.

They claimed the new evidence proved I had manipulated the case.

They claimed my entire fight was personal revenge because of my mother’s death.

The media exploded.

Again.

The story changed.

Again.

For a moment, I watched the news silently.

My father was trying to destroy me with the one thing he knew I could not ignore.

My mother.

But he made another mistake.

He reminded me why I started fighting.

Not for myself.

For everyone who had been silenced.

That afternoon, Alexander came to see me.

He looked exhausted.

“I found something.”

I looked at him.

“Another secret?”

He nodded.

“Yes.”

He placed a document on the table.

“This was hidden in father’s private archive.”

I opened it.

My eyes moved across the page.

Then stopped.

The signature at the bottom.

Richard Whitmore.

But this time...

there was another name.

Arthur Whitmore.

My uncle.

I looked at Alexander.

“They both knew.”

He nodded.

“About your mother.”

Silence filled the room.

May you like

The entire family had been built on secrets.

And now every secret was coming back.
