Chapter 2: The House of Cards

Julian took one slow step toward Vivian.

Then another.

Every movement was smooth.

Controlled.

Powerful.

Not even the slightest limp remained.

Months of physical therapy had restored his body.

Months of patience had sharpened his revenge.

Vivian unconsciously stepped backward.

"No..." she whispered.

"This isn't possible."

Julian stopped only a few feet away.

"For six months," he said quietly, "I watched you steal from my company."

No one breathed.

"I watched you move money through shell accounts."

"I listened while you called the mechanic who conveniently forgot to inspect the brakes on my Aston Martin."

The whispers started immediately.

Board members exchanged horrified looks.

Investors stared at Vivian in disbelief.

Her confidence cracked.

Then shattered.

"He's lying!" she screamed.

"He has no proof!"

"You've lost your mind!"

She pointed wildly toward the wheelchair.

"You're doing this because I refused to spend my life married to a cripple!"

Julian never reacted.

He simply lifted one finger.

His head of security immediately stepped forward carrying a thick evidence binder.

Julian caught it with one hand.

Then tossed it onto the marble at Vivian's feet.

Photographs scattered.

Bank records.

Wire transfers.

Surveillance stills.

Insurance reports.

Phone logs.

One document after another.

Each one another nail in her coffin.

"I regained the ability to walk three months ago," Julian said.

"But remaining in that wheelchair was the most valuable investment I've ever made."

His eyes swept across the crowd.

"People stop hiding the truth around a man they believe has already lost everything."

"They assume he can't fight back."

"They assume he isn't paying attention."

He slowly turned toward Clara.

Her tear-filled eyes met his.

His voice softened for the first time.

"The only thing I never knew..."

"...was who would still stand beside me when they believed I had nothing left."

Clara couldn't speak.

She simply lowered her head.

Fighting back tears.
