Chapter 4: A New Horizon

Six months later.

The Vance estate no longer felt like a place of power. It felt empty—like a body that had finally exhaled its last breath.

Clara stood on the wooden porch of a small colonial house in coastal Maine.

No marble floors.

No guards.

Just wind, pine trees, and ocean air.

In her arms, her newborn daughter slept peacefully.

Hope.

Lily stepped outside, two cups of tea in her hands. “It’s done,” she said quietly. “The divorce. Finalized this morning. Everything is secured—for you and her.”

Clara nodded slowly, not speaking at first.

She looked down at her daughter.

So small. So new. So untouched by everything that came before her.

Arthur Vance had used his influence in the end—not to protect his son, but to bury the legacy he no longer recognized as his own. Quietly. Completely.

Clara exhaled, long and deep.

The scars on her face had faded into faint lines—no longer wounds, but evidence of survival.

She wasn’t the woman who had walked into that house anymore.

She was something else now.

Someone who got out.

And someone who made sure the story ended differently for the next generation.
