Chapter 2: The Testimony

The courthouse steps were drowning in flashing cameras and shouting reporters.
Clara didn’t stop walking.
Her steps were slow, careful—but steady. A high-collared dress covered the worst of her injuries, but nothing could hide what she had survived.
Not anymore.
Federal marshals guided her through the noise, with Lily close behind.
Inside, the courtroom felt colder than the world outside.
Julian sat at the defense table in an orange jumpsuit that erased every trace of his privilege. No tailored suit. No confident smirk. Just a man trying—and failing—to look untouchable.
His lawyers spoke first, carefully polished words about stress, misunderstanding, a “domestic incident gone too far.”
Then Clara stood up.
And the room went silent.
She took the witness stand, one hand resting lightly on her stomach.
“He didn’t just lock the doors,” she said, her voice steady despite the tremor underneath it. “He tried to lock me out of my own life. My own voice.”
She paused.
For the first time, she looked directly at Julian.
“He believed his name made him untouchable. But power doesn’t erase truth. It exposes it.”
When the audio recording played—his voice, the threats, the breaking chaos in the background—the air in the courtroom changed.

Even the defense attorneys stopped writing.
Julian didn’t speak again after that.
