Chapter 3 – The Truth Was Even Worse

The investigator agreed to meet me.

He looked uncomfortable.

"I thought you already knew."

"Knew what?"

He slid a folder across the table.

Inside were dozens of reports.

Bank statements.

Family records.

Old photographs.

Ethan hadn't been checking if I was cheating.

He'd been investigating my inheritance.

Three months earlier, my late grandfather had quietly transferred ownership of valuable land into my name.

Land worth nearly twelve million dollars.

No one in my family had mentioned it because the legal paperwork wasn't complete.

Except Ethan somehow found out.

The investigator lowered his voice.

"He specifically asked whether you planned to sign a prenuptial agreement."

Everything suddenly made sense.

The expensive wedding.

The sudden rush to get married.

The fake promises.

The affair wasn't the beginning of the betrayal.

Greed was.

I walked outside feeling strangely calm.

I hadn't lost the love of my life.

I'd escaped the biggest mistake of it.
