CHAPTER 2: THE HOUSE THAT WAS NEVER WATCHED

The moment Elena collapsed, the mansion felt different.

Not quieter.

Smarter.

I noticed it within seconds—the kind of shift you only recognize when you’ve spent years building systems meant to see everything.

And suddenly, I wasn’t sure who was watching who.

The physician checked her pulse while Veronica stood rigid near the fire, arms crossed, pretending boredom while her eyes kept drifting toward the ceiling cameras.

“Remove them,” I ordered my security chief.

He hesitated. “Sir… I didn’t install any of the current feed.”

That sentence landed heavier than it should have.

Because I knew my system. I knew every line of code, every camera route, every encrypted node inside this house.

And yet the feeds were live.

Active.

Watching.

Veronica exhaled slowly. “Adrian, you’re letting a homeless-looking woman destabilize you. This is insane.”

I didn’t answer.

Instead, I checked the security panel myself.

Logs showed something impossible.

Internal meant inside the mansion.

Inside meant someone here.

Elena’s voice suddenly broke the silence—weak but conscious again.

“They didn’t just watch you,” she whispered. “They prepared you.”

Her eyes fluttered open.

“Adrian… you were never the target.”

Before I could respond, every screen in the room flickered at once.

Then went black.

And came back with a single line:

YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE BROUGHT HER INSIDE.
