CHAPTER 1 — The Door That Ended the Illusion

Ricardo Salazar didn’t raise his voice.
He didn’t need to.
The silence he brought into the mansion was heavier than any scream Santiago had ever heard.
Santiago stood frozen, his smirk gone, replaced by something unfamiliar—uncertainty.
“Father?” Valeria whispered, barely believing it.
Ricardo’s eyes never left Santiago.
“I told you,” Ricardo said calmly, “one day you would forget what real power looks like.”
Beatriz tightened her grip on the wine glass.
A crack formed in her perfect composure.
“You…” Santiago swallowed. “You can’t just walk in here.”
Ricardo stepped forward once.
Only once.
And the entire room shifted.
“I didn’t walk in,” Ricardo said. “I came to retrieve my daughter.”
Valeria’s breath caught.
Santiago turned sharply toward her.
“Your father…?”
For the first time in two years, his voice lost its control.
Valeria slowly stood, one hand still protecting her belly.
“Yes,” she said quietly. “You never asked who I was.”
A beat of silence.
Then—
Ricardo pulled out a folder.
Not threats.
Not warnings.
Evidence.
Bank accounts. Offshore holdings. Hidden transfers. Psychiatric fraud documents. Recorded audio streams.
Santiago’s face drained of color.
Beatriz stepped back for the first time.
“No…” she whispered.
Ricardo looked at them both.
“You built your empire on a woman you thought had no name.”
May you like
A pause.
“And that was your first mistake.”
