Chapter 4: A New Dawn

Six months later.

Morning sunlight poured through the floor-to-ceiling windows of Vance Industries headquarters, bathing the executive boardroom in gold.

Emma stood at the head of the conference table.

The woman who had nearly frozen to death was gone.

In her place stood a CEO.

Confident.

Composed.

Untouchable.

Her tailored white suit contrasted sharply against the dark skyline beyond the glass.

She lifted a cup of hot coffee, pausing for a moment to enjoy something she would never take for granted again.

Warmth.

Behind her, the morning news echoed across a giant television.

"The corporate trial that captivated the nation has officially concluded. Former billionaire Victor Vance has been sentenced to life in federal prison. Meanwhile, Vance Industries has posted record-breaking growth under the leadership of newly appointed CEO Emma Vance."

Emma reached for the remote.

The room fell silent.

Every director around the table watched her carefully.

Some admired her.

Others feared her.

None underestimated her.

She walked toward the window overlooking Manhattan.

The city moved beneath her exactly as it always had.

Only she had changed.

She rested one hand against the glass as the first rays of sunrise illuminated the skyline.

A quiet smile crossed her face.

She whispered the promise that had kept her alive inside the darkness.

"Only one of us walked away free."
