Chapter 2: The Loyal Assistant

Security arrived within minutes.

David did not fight them. That made Richard even more afraid.

A guilty man sometimes ran.

A desperate man sometimes begged.

But David simply lowered his head as if he had been expecting this moment for a long time.

Dr. Keller examined the pills and ordered emergency treatment. The nurse stayed beside the old man, steady and focused, correcting the damage before it could become fatal.

Richard stood outside the room, his suit wrinkled, his face pale.

For years, David had been more than an assistant.

He handled Richard’s schedule.

His contracts.

His father’s private appointments.

His family documents.

He had keys to the mansion, access to the company records, and permission to speak on behalf of the family.

Richard had trusted him with everything.

That was the mistake.

A police officer questioned David in the hallway. At first, David said nothing.

Then Richard stepped forward.

“Was someone paying you?”

David’s jaw tightened.

Richard moved closer.

“Was it the board?”

Still nothing.

Then the nurse walked out of the room holding a folder.

“I found something in his medical bag,” she said.

Inside was a folded document.

Richard opened it.

His hands went cold.

It was a revised will.

Unsigned.

But prepared.

According to the document, if Richard’s father was declared mentally unfit or died suddenly, control of the family company would temporarily pass to an emergency executive committee.

And David’s name was listed as the committee’s legal coordinator.

Richard looked up slowly.

“You weren’t trying to kill him.”

David’s eyes flickered.

Richard’s voice hardened.

“You were trying to make him look too sick to sign the real will.”

David finally spoke.

“You don’t understand what your father was going to do.”

Richard stepped closer.

“What was he going to do?”

May you like

David looked toward the hospital room.

“He was going to leave everything to the nurse.”
