Chapter 4: Arthur's Final Goodbye
Lily pressed play.
Arthur appeared on the screen.
Older.
Tired.
But smiling.
"Hello, sweetheart."
Lily immediately burst into tears.
Arthur smiled gently.
"If you're watching this, then my plan worked."
He paused.
"I wanted to tell the world you were my daughter years ago. But every time I tried, the people responsible for your mother's death moved closer. I was afraid they would hurt you too."
Lily listened silently.

Arthur's voice trembled.

Lily cried harder.
Arthur reached toward the camera as if he could comfort her.
"You may think I abandoned you.
I didn't.
Not for a single day."
Then he smiled.
"The greatest regret of my life was not getting to be your father openly.
The greatest joy of my life was being your father at all."
The screen went black for a moment.
Then a final message appeared.
"For Lily Sterling."
Along with it came legal documents.
