Chapter 2: The Letter Arthur Left Behind

The envelope sat on the conference table inside the police station.

Detectives, attorneys, and judges all watched as the little girl carefully broke the seal.

Her name was Lily Harper.

Until that morning, almost nobody in the courtroom had known who she was.

Now everyone wanted answers.

Inside the envelope was a handwritten letter.

Arthur Sterling's handwriting was unmistakable.

Lily read aloud.

"If you are reading this, then I am already gone.

Lily, there is something the world does not know.

You are not an orphan.

You are my daughter."

The room fell silent.

Several detectives exchanged shocked glances.

Mrs. Gable covered her mouth.

Lily froze.

"Daughter?" she whispered.

Arthur's letter continued.

"Eight years ago, your mother saved my life. When she discovered corruption inside Sterling Enterprises, she tried to expose it. Before she could, she was killed in what was reported as an accident.

It was not an accident.

She was murdered."

The detectives leaned forward.

Arthur named the people responsible.

One name appeared repeatedly.

Clara Reynolds.

Another was Victor Kane, the company's chief financial officer.

For years they had been stealing millions through fake contracts and hidden accounts.

When Lily's mother discovered the scheme, they silenced her.

Arthur had spent years secretly protecting Lily while gathering evidence.

But he knew his enemies were becoming desperate.

Near the bottom of the letter was one final instruction.

"The evidence is hidden where Lily first learned to ride a bicycle."

Nobody understood.

Except Lily.

Her eyes widened.

"The park," she said.

"The old carousel."

Within hours investigators rushed to the abandoned amusement park on the edge of the city.

Beneath the carousel they found a locked metal box.

Inside were hard drives, financial records, recordings, and signed documents.

Enough evidence to destroy an empire.

And enough to prove Arthur Sterling had been murdered.

Not Evelyn Gable.

May you like

Not by poison.

But by a conspiracy that had lasted nearly a decade.
