Chapter 2: The Truth Behind the Veil

The groom didn’t move.
The little girl’s words still echoed inside his head like a warning he couldn’t unhear.
“Mom told me to stay hidden…”
“…and never go outside.”
A wedding should have felt like the beginning of something beautiful.
But in that moment, it felt like the edge of something dangerous.
He slowly stood up, still holding her hand.
“Where is your mom?” he asked, forcing calm into his voice.
The girl hesitated.
Then she pointed—trembling—not toward the door… but toward the wedding hall itself.
“The big room…”
His stomach tightened.
The music outside suddenly felt louder. Closer. Too normal for what he was starting to feel.
He picked her up gently, careful not to tear her dress, and stepped out of the bathroom.
The hallway was full of movement—staff rushing, guests smiling, flowers being adjusted. Everything looked perfect.
Too perfect.
And then he saw her.
The bride.
Standing beneath soft white lights, surrounded by people, smiling like nothing in the world could go wrong.
For a second, he almost believed it.
Almost.
Until he felt the girl in his arms suddenly go stiff.
“Mom…” she whispered.
The groom froze.
His gaze dropped slightly.
The little girl wasn’t looking at the bride the way a lost child looks at a parent.
She was looking at her like someone looking at a command.
Something rehearsed.
Controlled.
The groom’s breath slowed.
“Is that your mother?” he asked quietly.
The girl nodded… but she didn’t look happy.
She looked afraid.
That was the moment everything changed.
Because the groom noticed something else—
The bride wasn’t just smiling at him.
She was smiling like she was expecting something to begin.
Not a marriage.
A performance.
And across the room, hidden among the guests, a man in a dark suit lowered his gaze the second their eyes almost met.
The groom felt it instantly.
A connection that didn’t belong in a wedding hall.
A secret that wasn’t meant to be seen.
The girl suddenly grabbed his shirt tighter.
“Don’t let them see me…” she whispered.
And in that instant, the groom finally understood—
May you like
This wedding was not about love.
It was about hiding something that had already begun long before he walked down the aisle.
