Chapter 3: The Estate War

The next morning, Brenda's revenge arrived.
Marcus's phone buzzed at exactly 8:03 a.m.
A message from the family attorney.
Your mother has instructed us to remove you from any future inheritance connected to the Harrison Family Trust.
Marcus stared at the screen for less than five seconds.
Then he smiled.
Maya looked confused.
"Aren't you upset?"
"Not really."
He opened his laptop.
"There are two versions of the trust."
Maya frowned.
"What do you mean?"
"My grandfather created the original trust."
He clicked through several scanned documents.
"My mother only controls the vacation properties and investment accounts."
Another click.
"The company itself belongs somewhere else."
Maya looked closer.
His grandfather's signature appeared beneath an amendment written eight years earlier.
The controlling shares...
Had been transferred directly to Marcus after he completed graduate school.
Brenda had never owned the company.
She only managed assets that depended on the company's profits.
Marcus leaned back.
"Mom spent years threatening everyone with an inheritance she never actually controlled."
"So..."
"If I remove company funding..."
Maya's eyes widened.
"...the trust stops producing income."
Marcus nodded once.
Within an hour he had drafted a formal notice.
Every discretionary payment supporting Brenda's lavish lifestyle—
Luxury resort memberships.
Country club fees.
Driver service.
Vacation allowance.
Household staff.
All suspended pending a financial audit.
Perfectly legal.
Entirely within his authority as majority shareholder.
He pressed Send.
Across town, Brenda was checking into a beachfront spa when her premium credit card declined.
Then her backup card.
Then another.
The hotel manager politely asked for another method of payment.
She called Marcus twenty-three times.
He never answered.
Instead...
He sent one sentence.

"You told my pregnant wife to take care of herself."
"So now you can too."
