Chapter 2: The Room No One Mentioned

Alejandro carried Valeria inside despite his mother’s protest.
“Don’t be foolish,” Isabel snapped. “She is manipulating you.”
Alejandro turned cold eyes on her. “One more word, and you leave my house tonight.”
For the first time in his life, Isabel went silent.
A private doctor arrived within twenty minutes. He examined Valeria in the guest suite while Alejandro waited outside, pacing like a caged animal.
When the doctor finally emerged, his face was grim.
“She is dehydrated. Malnourished. There are restraint marks on her wrists. But the baby has a heartbeat.”
Alejandro closed his eyes.
Alive.
Both of them.
Later, Valeria told him everything in pieces.
She had been taken the night she planned to surprise him with the pregnancy. She remembered a cloth over her mouth, a locked room outside the city, and a woman’s voice giving orders.
“I never saw her face,” Valeria said. “But I knew the perfume.”
Alejandro’s jaw tightened.
Isabel’s perfume.
That night, Alejandro searched the old security records himself. The footage from the night Valeria disappeared had been deleted.
But one file remained.
A service gate camera.

On the screen, Valeria was being carried unconscious into a gray van.
And standing beside the van was Alejandro’s younger brother, Mateo.
