CHAPTER 4: THE FALL OF ETHAN WHITMORE

Within minutes, the house was no longer his.
It was controlled.
Monitored.
Documented.
Every wall now felt like it was recording him.
Ethan stood in the middle of the marble kitchen, suddenly aware of how small he looked in a space he used to dominate.
A laptop opened on the counter.
Security feeds.
Bank records.
Trust transfers.
Vanessa’s name appearing in filings that should not have been public yet.
“No…” Ethan whispered.
A new voice entered the room through a phone speaker.
Calm. Old. Familiar.
“Ethan Whitmore.”
Ethan froze.
He knew that voice.
“No one told me you had become ambitious,” Charles Blackwood said. “Or reckless.”
Ethan’s throat tightened. “Sir, this is a misunderstanding—”
A soft exhale.
Almost disappointed.
“You touched my granddaughter,” Charles said. “That was not a misunderstanding. That was a decision.”
Silence.
Vanessa slowly backed away from Ethan completely now.
Like a ship abandoning sinking steel.
Ethan turned to her.
“Vanessa—”
She shook her head.
“No,” she whispered. “I’m not part of this.”
And just like that, she left him standing alone.
The screens around him updated.
Asset freezes.
Emergency injunctions.
Criminal filing initiation.
Ethan’s empire didn’t collapse loudly.
It collapsed in silence.
Line by line.
Account by account.
Name by name.
Then—
A final notification appeared on the screen:
“Ethan Whitmore: Restricted Access Revoked.”
His phone rang.
Unknown number.
He answered.

Only one sentence came through:
“Mr. Whitmore… you are no longer protected.”
