Chapter 8: The Man Everyone Buried

Nobody spoke.

Not Emily.

Not Victoria.

Not even Daniel, who rushed into the building moments later with investigators.

Alexander Montgomery stood beneath the old chandelier.

Older.

Weaker.

But alive.

Victoria looked like she had seen a ghost.

“You…”

Her voice cracked.

“You died.”

Alexander looked at her.

“No.”

A long silence.

“I disappeared.”

Emily stared.

“What is happening?”

Alexander looked at her.

“I owe you the truth.”

He explained everything.

Twenty-two years earlier, he discovered Victoria’s financial crimes.

When he confronted her, he realized something terrifying.

Victoria wasn’t just stealing money.

She was building a system of control.

She had people inside banks.

Inside companies.

Inside law firms.

Alexander planned to expose her.

But Victoria discovered his plan.

“She tried to destroy me,” Alexander said.

“She created evidence that made everyone believe I was unstable.”

Emily listened carefully.

“Then why didn’t you come back?”

Alexander looked at Olivia.

His expression broke.

“Because Victoria threatened my daughter.”

Olivia froze.

“She told me if I returned, Olivia would disappear forever.”

Victoria looked away.

Because for once…

there was no lie.

Only truth.

Alexander continued.

“I spent years collecting evidence.”

“I knew one day someone would finally be brave enough to fight her.”

His eyes moved toward Emily.

“That person was you.”

Emily felt overwhelmed.

Too many secrets.

Too many lies.

But one thing became clear.

Victoria had spent decades controlling everyone.

Even the people who thought they escaped her.

Alexander turned toward Victoria.

“It ends now.”

Victoria’s expression changed.

“No.”

Everyone looked at her.

She smiled.

A terrifying calm smile.

“You still think you won.”

Daniel stepped forward.

“What are you talking about?”

Victoria looked at Emily.

“Ask your father.”

Emily froze.

“My father?”

Victoria laughed softly.

“You really don’t know, do you?”

The room went silent.

“Your family history.”

“Your real identity.”

Emily stared.

“Stop.”

But Victoria continued.

“Your father worked with Alexander.”

Emily’s heart raced.

“And when he discovered the truth about me…”

She smiled.

“He helped hide you.”

Emily felt dizzy.

Her entire life.

Everything she believed.

Everything she knew.

Was changing again.

Victoria leaned closer.

May you like

“You weren’t investigating the Montgomery family.”

“You were investigating yourself.”
