Chapter 3: The Recording They Forgot

Two days later.
Doctors successfully delivered a healthy baby girl by emergency cesarean section.
Amelia survived.
Barely.
Richard arrived carrying flowers and cameras followed behind him.
He kissed Amelia's forehead dramatically.
"I almost lost both of you."
She looked into his eyes.
For the first time in five years...
She felt absolutely nothing.
Only disgust.
Detective Laura Bennett entered the hospital room.
"Mrs. Whitmore, we'd like another statement."
Richard smiled politely.
"Of course."
Amelia looked directly at the detective.
"My husband murdered Martha."
Silence.
Richard laughed.
"She's traumatized."
"The medication—"
"No."
Amelia interrupted him.
"He locked us inside."
"There were witnesses."
Richard's smile remained calm.
"The fire destroyed everything."
"No evidence survived."
At that exact moment...
Detective Bennett's phone rang.
She answered.
Her expression changed instantly.
"What?"
"...Cloud storage?"
"...Recovered video?"
Richard slowly turned pale.
The hidden nursery monitor had automatically uploaded everything before the fire consumed it.
Every conversation.
Every threat.
Every second.
Including Evelyn saying,
"It'll look like an accidental fire."
Including Richard locking the door.
Including his final words.
"No one can get out alive."
Detective Bennett quietly looked up.
"Mr. Whitmore..."
May you like
"I need you to stand."
Richard's confident smile disappeared forever.
