CHAPTER 3: THE SECRET THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

The silence became unbearable.

Finally...

The wealthy lady forced herself to laugh.

"There must be some mistake."

She looked toward the guests.

"This girl told everyone she was alone."

The pregnant woman lowered her eyes.

"I never said I wasn't married."

"You assumed."

The words landed like a slap.

The wealthy lady's face tightened.

Adrian stood.

His six-foot-four frame suddenly made the distance between them feel much smaller.

"My wife never lies."

"But she also doesn't defend herself when people choose cruelty."

His voice remained calm.

Which somehow frightened everyone even more.

The wealthy lady folded her arms.

"If she's really your wife..."

"Then where have you been for seven months?"

Several guests nodded.

Exactly.

Where had he been?

Adrian reached into his coat.

Everyone expected legal documents.

Instead...

He removed a military identification badge.

"I wasn't hiding."

"I was working."

The guests exchanged confused glances.

Adrian continued.

"My company signed a classified aerospace rescue contract with the United States government."

"No phones."

"No public communication."

"No visitors."

"My wife couldn't even know where I was."

Gasps spread across the garden.

The pregnant woman quietly wiped away her tears.

"I agreed."

"I signed every confidentiality document."

The wealthy lady frowned.

"So why didn't you tell people?"

The pregnant woman smiled sadly.

"Because promises matter."

"I chose to protect my husband's mission."

Even if...

The world believed he had abandoned her.

For months she had endured whispers.

Judgment.

Humiliation.

Loneliness.

Without saying one word.

Adrian looked at his wife with unmistakable pride.

"You protected my honor."

"Now..."

"It's my turn to protect yours."

He snapped his fingers once.

Three black SUVs rolled through the mansion gates.

More than twenty executives stepped out.

The party host nearly fainted.

Every one of them belonged to Bennett Aerospace.

The company's Chief Legal Officer approached Adrian.

"Sir."

"The acquisition documents are complete."

The wealthy lady blinked.

"Acquisition?"

Adrian nodded.

"This property."

"This country club."

"The golf course."

"The surrounding resort."

"They're ours now."

The guests looked toward the party host.

His face had turned completely white.

He quietly nodded.

"The sale closed..."

"...forty-two minutes ago."

The wealthy lady suddenly realized something horrifying.
