Chapter 2: The Husband Returns

At that exact moment, the front door opened again.
Daniel hurried inside after receiving dozens of missed calls.
He froze.
His pregnant wife was lying injured on the staircase.
His father-in-law—whom he had met only twice—was kneeling beside her.
Victoria rushed toward him first.
"Daniel!"
"She attacked me!"
"I only defended myself!"
Daniel looked between the two women.
Months ago, he might have believed her.
But something felt wrong.
Very wrong.
Charles slowly stood.
"Before anyone speaks," he said calmly, "I'd like everyone to watch something."
One of the security specialists connected a tablet to the mansion's television.
Victoria smiled nervously.
The staircase camera had been broken for weeks.
Or so she thought.
The screen flickered.
Then crystal-clear footage appeared.
Not from the staircase.
From a decorative mirror across the hall.
Its reflection captured everything.
Victoria looking around.
Making sure no one was watching.
Placing both hands firmly on Amelia's shoulders.
And deliberately shoving her down the stairs.
Every frame.
Every movement.
Every lie.
The room became unbearably quiet.
Victoria whispered,
"That's... edited..."
Charles raised an eyebrow.
"Interesting."
"Because this recording has already been uploaded to three separate secure servers."
Daniel stared at the screen in disbelief.
May you like
His knees nearly gave out.
"What have you done...?"
