Chapter 1: The Paper in Her Bag

The slap echoed across the ballroom.

Every conversation stopped.

Crystal glasses froze halfway to lips.

The young waitress staggered backward, one hand covering her burning cheek.

"How dare you flirt with my husband?" screamed Vanessa Harrington, the wealthy wife of one of the city's most powerful businessmen.

Tears filled the waitress's eyes.

"I wasn't—"

"Enough!" Vanessa snapped. "Security, get her out of here."

The guests watched in silence.

Some pitied the girl.

Most simply looked away.

The waitress stood trembling.

Her name was Lily Carter.

Twenty-four years old.

Working double shifts just to pay rent.

She looked around the room and realized nobody intended to help her.

Then her eyes settled on Vanessa's husband.

Daniel Harrington.

The billionaire CEO looked uncomfortable but remained silent.

Lily swallowed hard.

For years she had promised herself she would never reveal the truth.

But tonight she had nothing left to lose.

Slowly, she reached into her worn handbag.

The room watched.

She pulled out an old, folded document.

The edges were yellow with age.

When Daniel saw it, his face turned ghostly white.

His knees nearly gave out.

"No..." he whispered.

Vanessa frowned.

"What is that?"

Lily unfolded the paper with shaking hands.

"A birth certificate."

The room fell silent.

Daniel's eyes filled with horror.

Because written on that document was one name he never expected to see again.

Father: Daniel Harrington.

The billionaire stared at the young waitress.

For the first time, he truly saw her.

The same eyes.

The same smile.

The same face as the woman he had loved twenty-five years ago.

And suddenly he understood.

The waitress he had just allowed to be humiliated...

Was his daughter.
