Chapter 3: The Locked Chamber Beneath the Castle

That night, the castle did not sleep.

Guards moved through corridors that had been sealed for decades.

Torches were lit in halls that had not seen flame since Arthur’s reign began.

And for the first time in twenty years—

Duke Arthur Blackwood personally descended beneath the estate.

Chloe followed.

Not as a prisoner.

Not as a guest.

But as something far more dangerous: a key.

Nora was dragged behind them in silence, refusing to struggle.

The stone staircase spiraled downward into darkness so old it felt untouched by time.

Arthur stopped before a sealed iron door.

Carved into it was the same crest on Chloe’s ring.

Blackwood. A crown. A broken line beneath it.

Arthur placed his hand on the metal.

For a long moment, he didn’t move.

Then he spoke, barely audible:

“I burned every record… every memory… every witness.”

His eyes shifted to Chloe.

“But I never opened this room again.”

A guard whispered:

“My lord… this chamber was declared forbidden by royal decree—”

Arthur cut him off.

“Open it.”

The door creaked.

Not like metal.

Like something alive waking up.

Inside—

A piano.

Covered in dust.

But intact.

Chloe stepped forward instinctively.

“No…” Nora whispered sharply. “Chloe, don’t—”

But Chloe had already walked inside.

The moment her fingers touched the piano—

The room responded.

A hidden mechanism clicked beneath the floor.

Walls shifted.

And a hidden compartment opened behind the instrument.

Arthur’s breath stopped.

Inside the compartment—

Was a second manuscript.

Unburned.

Untouched.

Signed with a name Arthur had erased from history:

ELARA BLACKWOOD

Arthur staggered back.

“No…” he said again, weaker this time. “That name is gone.”

Chloe looked up at him.

“She said you would react like that.”

Arthur’s eyes snapped to her.

“She told you?”

Chloe nodded.

“She said… ‘When he sees my signature, he will finally stop lying to himself.’”

A violent silence followed.

Then—

From somewhere deep within the castle walls…

A faint echo of piano music began to play.

Without anyone touching the keys.
