A year later...
I received one final letter.
It came from prison.
Richard apologized.
Again.
This time I didn't cry.
I folded the letter.
Placed it inside a box.
Closed the lid forever.
Forgiveness didn't mean reopening the door.
It meant refusing to carry his guilt any longer.
