Chapter 3: The Secret Buried in Blood

The mansion was silent.
Too silent.
Not the elegant silence of wealth—but the suffocating kind that follows truth too heavy to digest.
Lily sat on the edge of the sofa, her small hands still wrapped around the silver crest.
Adrian stood near the window, staring into the night.
Neither of them spoke for a long time.
Finally, he turned.
“We need to understand what this means,” he said softly.
Lily nodded, as if she had been waiting for permission to be brave.
“My mommy said the crest opens doors,” she whispered. “But only if the right person holds it.”
Adrian’s eyes narrowed slightly.
“Doors?”
She nodded again.
“Before she went away, she told me not to show it to bad people. She said… they would come back for it.”
A cold feeling spread through Adrian’s chest.
Not fear.
Recognition.
He had heard fragments of this before—whispers buried in old Whitmore archives. A hidden ledger. A second inheritance system. Something the family was never supposed to access publicly.
A system tied not to wealth…
But to identity.
He knelt beside her.
“Lily,” he said carefully. “Did your mother ever mention a place? A safe place?”
The girl thought for a moment.
Then nodded.
“She said… if anything happened, I should go where the roses never die.”
Adrian went still.
Because he knew that place.
A private estate.
Locked for years.
Officially abandoned.
Unofficially sealed.
By order of his father.
And contested by no one.
Until now.
Three hours later.
The car stopped in front of the iron gates.
Overgrown vines wrapped around black metal like veins around a forgotten heart.
Lily pressed her face to the window.
“This is it,” she whispered.
Adrian didn’t answer.
Because the moment he stepped out of the car…
The crest in Lily’s hands began to warm.
Not metaphorically.
Literally.
A faint silver glow pulsed from its edges.
And for the first time in decades…
The gates began to unlock themselves.
Not by force.
Not by code.
But by recognition.
Adrian felt his breath catch.
“This isn’t just a family secret,” he murmured.
It was a system that remembered blood.
And it had just accepted Lily.
The gates opened fully.
Darkness waited beyond them.
But so did truth.
And somewhere inside that forgotten estate…
May you like
Something—or someone—
was waiting for them to arrive.
