PART 3 — Lunch Ends Early

Across town Jasper laughed over expensive wine while his mother criticized me.

"I told you she was dramatic," Gillian said.

"Women today expect to be treated like queens."

Priscilla rolled her eyes.

"She'll calm down once she realizes she needs you."

Jasper smiled confidently.

"She has nowhere else to go."

At that exact moment his phone rang.

Unknown number.

He ignored it.

It rang again.

And again.

Finally he answered.

"This is Officer Bennett."

"We're calling regarding vehicle registration number—"

Jasper frowned.

"Yes?"

"You are currently operating property registered to Mrs. Hailey Robertson."

"We require the vehicle returned immediately."

He laughed.

"That's my wife's SUV."

"No, sir."

May you like

"It legally belongs to Mrs. Robertson."

The smile disappeared from his face.
