CHAPTER 4 — THE COURTROOM SHE NEVER EXPECTED

Three weeks later...
The courthouse overflowed with reporters.
Margaret walked inside wearing pearls and a designer suit, smiling confidently for every camera.
She still believed reputation could save her.
Then Daniel entered.
Not beside his mother.
Beside Ava.
He gently held her hand as she walked with a cane instead of the wheelchair.
Gasps echoed through the courtroom.
Margaret's smile disappeared.
Inside, the judge listened patiently.
The forged documents.
Medical fraud.
Financial coercion.
Witness intimidation.
Then Rosa testified.
Her voice shook at first.
But she never looked away.
"I watched Mrs. Whitmore drug Ava."
"I saw her forge signatures."
"I heard her threaten anyone who questioned her."
Margaret laughed.
"A maid's word means nothing."
Daniel stood.
"It doesn't have to."
He pressed a button.
The courtroom screens lit up.
Security footage.
Hidden camera recordings.
Audio files.
Margaret's own voice filled the courtroom.
"If Daniel finds out...
I'll simply tell him she's losing her mind."
No one spoke.
The judge removed his glasses.
"Mrs. Whitmore..."
"You've said enough."
Margaret finally looked afraid.
Real fear.
Not because of prison.
May you like
Because she understood something worse.
She had lost her son forever.
