CHAPTER 4: HOME

Six months later.

The house looked completely different.

Fresh paint.

New gardens.

Dad's old workshop had become a small reading room.

His favorite chair still sat beside the window.

Exactly where he left it.

My mother slowly changed.

She apologized.

Not once.

Many times.

She admitted grief had turned into anger.

And anger had blinded her.

Trust wasn't rebuilt overnight.

But little by little...

We became family again.

Chloe moved into her own apartment.

For the first time in her life, she learned to pay her own bills.

Oddly enough...

It made her grow up.

As for Jason...

He sent messages for months.

I never replied.

Some doors close for a reason.

One evening, I stood on the front porch watching the sunset.

I unfolded Dad's letter again.

The paper had already begun to soften from being read so many times.

I smiled.

"This really was your plan, wasn't it?"

The wind gently rustled the trees.

Somehow...

It felt like an answer.

A home is never just walls and a roof.

It's the people who protect it.

The people who sacrifice for it.

And the people who choose love over pride.

That night, I locked the front door.

Not because I was afraid someone would take my home.

But because, for the first time in a very long time...

May you like

I finally knew exactly where I belonged.
