CHAPTER 5: WHAT SURVIVES AFTER THE STORM (ENDING)

Two weeks later, Amelia opened her eyes.

The first thing she saw was me.

The second was her father sitting quietly by the window.

No words.

Just relief.

She survived.

The baby survived.

Everything else was gone.

The Whitfield name no longer carried weight.

The empire no longer mattered.

Only what was left standing did.

Outside, Eleanor had disappeared from public life.

No headlines.

No apology.

Just silence.

I held Amelia’s hand that night.

She looked at me softly.

“Was it worth it?” she asked.

I knew what she meant.

Everything.

The loss.

The collapse.

The truth.

I nodded.

“Yes.”

Because in the end…

Power didn’t save anyone.

Truth did.

And the moment I spoke it out loud…

Everything else finally fell where it was supposed to.
