Chapter 2: The Board Chooses Its True Leader

The mansion fell silent the moment Elena stepped outside.

The cold evening air wrapped around her as the convoy of black SUVs waited with military precision. Every driver stood beside an open door. Every security officer lowered his head respectfully.

"Good evening, Ms. Ward."

Her Chief Legal Officer, Michael Grant, extended a leather portfolio.

"The emergency board meeting has already begun."

Elena glanced back only once.

Through the open doorway she could see Daniel standing exactly where she had left him.

Frozen.

The confident CEO who had ordered his own wife to leave now looked like a man who had forgotten how to breathe.

She entered the first SUV without another word.

The convoy disappeared into the city.

Inside the mansion, panic replaced arrogance.

"This has to be some kind of scam!" Chloe shouted.

Patricia grabbed the nearest crystal glass so tightly her fingers turned white.

"No... no..."

Daniel finally moved.

He rushed toward the office.

"My shares."

He pulled open cabinet after cabinet, searching through legal files.

His hands trembled.

"The company belongs to me."

He repeated the sentence over and over, almost like a prayer.

When he found the shareholder records...

His blood ran cold.

His name appeared exactly where he expected.

Chief Executive Officer.

Five percent ownership.

Employee stock options.

Nothing more.

He flipped another page.

Then another.

Finally...

The controlling shareholder appeared.

Ward Family Trust.

Majority ownership:
61%.

Authorized representative:

Elena Ward.

Daniel's knees nearly buckled.

He remembered dozens of board meetings where directors had quietly accepted Elena's recommendations.

He had assumed they respected his wife because she was intelligent.

Now he understood.

They had never been taking advice.

They had been listening to their owner.

Across town...

The executive boardroom occupied the top floor of Ward International Headquarters.

Thirty executives stood the moment Elena entered.

No applause.

Only respect.

"Good evening, Chairwoman."

Elena nodded once before taking the seat at the head of the long walnut table.

Michael placed another folder before her.

"The removal documents."

Every director had already signed.

Only one signature remained.

Hers.

She read every page carefully.

No emotion crossed her face.

Then...

She signed.

Michael closed the folder.

"It is done."

One director cleared his throat.

"The market opens in twelve hours."

Elena looked toward the city skyline.

"Prepare the announcement."

Another director hesitated.

"And Daniel?"

She answered without looking back.

"He'll learn with everyone else."

At exactly 8:00 the next morning...

Daniel walked confidently into corporate headquarters.

The receptionist immediately stood.

"Good morning, Mr. Ward."

For one brief second...

Normal.

Then something changed.

She swallowed nervously.

"I'm... sorry."

Daniel frowned.

"What?"

"You've been asked to wait."

He laughed.

"Asked by who?"

Before she could answer...

His executive access card flashed red.

Access Denied.

Again.

Red.

Again.

Red.

Employees nearby slowly stopped walking.

Whispers spread through the lobby.

"What is happening?"

Daniel felt dozens of eyes watching him.

His phone vibrated.

BOARD ANNOUNCEMENT.

Effective immediately...

Mr. Daniel Ward has been relieved of all executive authority.

Interim Chairwoman:

Elena Ward.

He stared at the screen.

Unable to blink.

Unable to think.

The empire he believed he ruled...

Had disappeared overnight.
