Chapter 3: The Betrayal
The emergency board meeting lasted almost nine hours.
No reporters were allowed inside.
When the doors finally opened, Charles Harrington was escorted out by federal investigators.
He never looked at his brother.
William stood frozen inside the boardroom.
"You sold your own family?"
Charles gave a tired smile.
"You inherited everything."
"I inherited your leftovers."
"You were always Father's favorite."
William shook his head.
"So you helped Nathan destroy my daughter?"
Charles looked at Evelyn.
"I never wanted her hurt."
"I only wanted the company."
Evelyn stepped closer.
"You watched him torture me."
"You heard everything."
"And you kept taking his money."
Charles lowered his eyes.
He had no defense.
The recordings had captured every payment.
Every meeting.
Every betrayal.
Federal prosecutors now possessed enough evidence to dismantle an international fraud network stretching across four countries.
Nathan wasn't the architect.
He had only been the front man.
Charles had been pulling the strings from the shadows all along.
Nathan slowly turned toward Charles.
"You told me she'd never figure it out."
Charles answered without emotion.
"I underestimated her."
Nathan laughed bitterly.
